Hendersonville High School has been selected as the only high school in the nation to participate in a prestigious international Japanese language exchange, offering students in Ms. Kondo’s Japanese language class and Japanese Club a rare opportunity to connect live with peers in Japan.

We’re proud to share that 81 SCS students were selected or named alternates to participate in the Mid-State Honors Orchestra, Jazz, and Band weekends this January through the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association.

The Sumner County Schools SRO Division has been named the BEST in the NATION, earning the prestigious NASRO Model Agency Award! 

The SRO division has a long history of prioritizing the safety and security of its students, and this award serves as a testament of their commitment. The NASRO Model Agency Award is highly competitive and recognizes only those agencies that meet strict criteria for excellence. Our SROs are employed by the Sumner County Sheriff's Office and EVERY school has a full-time Sumner County Sheriff's Deputy on duty. We are very grateful for each and every one of them Thank you, Sumner County Sheriff's Office, for making a difference every day!

Sumner County Schools leads the state in certified Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathways, helping students prepare for high-skill, high-demand careers. Organized into 16 Career Clusters, CTE programs connect student interests to real-world opportunities, boosting achievement, graduation rates, and college readiness. Available from middle school through post-secondary levels, CTE offers dual enrollment and dual credit options, providing technical skills, academic rigor, and career experience.

Transportation

Our Transportation Department maintains and operates over 220 buses that travel over 13,000 miles a day and over 2.4 million miles a year covering 771 routes per day. Approximately 60% of Sumner County Schools’ students ride the bus at some time. The Transportation Department also provides the School Board information and assistance with school zones and boundaries.

Career and Technical Education

CTE is helping our nation meet the very real and immediate challenges of economic development, student achievement and global competitiveness. CTE programs are organized by 16 Career Clusters to offer a complete range of career options for students, helping them discover their interests and the educational pathway that can lead to success 

Attendance

The Attendance Department is responsible for enforcing the Compulsory Attendance Law of Tennessee by working with all Sumner County Schools regarding students who are absent and/or tardy too frequently and who have not responded to the corrective efforts made by the building principal.  Our goal is to ensure that students succeed in their education by maintaining optimal attendance. 

Safe Schools

The Safe Schools, Healthy Students office focuses on developing positive school climate and culture, through promoting prevention activities to lessen bullying, substance abuse and violence. Priority is to reduce risk factors for young people and promote an increase in protective factors. Safe Schools provides professional development and security-related activities to support school safety through crisis intervention, school resource officer trainings, violence prevention, social and emotional wellness within all Sumner County K-12 schools. 

TEACH Sumner

TEACH Sumner is a collaborative designed to address the need for qualified educators in the region. This program offers a licensure pathway for individuals aspiring to become school teachers. Participants are required to secure full-time, job-embedded teaching positions within Sumner County Schools, allowing them to gain practical classroom experience while completing their certification. This approach aligns with Tennessee's "Grow Your Own" teacher apprenticeship model, which aims to create sustainable solutions for teacher recruitment and preparation challenges faced by school districts.
