Early Learning and Pre-K

Laying the Foundation for Lifelong Success
The Early Learning and Pre-Kindergarten Department at Sumner County Schools, located in Tennessee, is dedicated to nurturing the developmental growth of our youngest learners. With nearly 30 classrooms spread across more than 10 elementary schools, our department proudly serves approximately 400 students each year.
Our inclusive programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of all children—those with special education needs, children identified as at-risk, and typically developing peers—through high-quality early childhood education. We focus on cultivating essential developmental skills in areas such as language and communication, cognitive growth, social-emotional well-being, physical development, and early literacy and numeracy.
At the heart of our mission is a commitment to equity, inclusion, and whole-child development. Our classrooms are led by certified early childhood educators and supported by specialized staff who collaborate closely with families, therapists, and support teams to ensure every child receives the tools and attention they need to thrive.
Through developmentally appropriate practices and evidence-based instruction, we strive to create safe, engaging, and enriching environments that set the stage for lifelong learning success.
We believe that early learning is not just preparation for kindergarten—it's a vital part of the educational journey where every child’s potential begins to flourish.
