SEED Special Education

Are you wanting to become a SPECIAL EDUCATION teacher? One licensure requirement is to enroll in an Educator Prep Program (EPP) to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in the classroom. A requirement of the TEACH Sumner program is that you are hired as a job embedded fulltime teacher of record, in Sumner County Schools.

Requirements for a special education teacher include a bachelor’s degree, a minimum 2.75 undergraduate GPA, and a passed Praxis exam (if degree is not sufficient).

The SEED program serves the Special Education Comprehensive endorsement.

Application Process

1. Complete the Interest Survey
   Prospective candidates are encouraged to complete the Interest Survey to receive additional information about program cohorts and timelines. You may also schedule a meeting with a member of the administrative team to discuss any questions regarding the program.
2. Apply for Open Positions
   Applicants must apply for available teaching positions within Sumner County Schools in their desired content area. Interviews are granted at the discretion of individual school principals, as Teach Sumner does not have hiring authority.
3. Apply to the Teach Sumner Program
   Upon receiving a job offer, candidates must formally APPLY to the Teach Sumner program through the Sumner County Schools job board.
4. Program Interview/Information Meeting
   Candidates will be invited to participate in an interview or informational meeting to review program expectations, requirements, and key logistics.
5. Complete Human Resources Onboarding
   Candidates must follow all onboarding procedures established by the Human Resources department, including completion of a background check and attendance at orientation sessions.
6. Receive Acceptance and Complete Enrollment
   After onboarding is complete, candidates will receive formal written acceptance into the program, along with instructions for enrollment as a job-embedded candidate through TNCompass. Upon completion of all TNCompass requirements, the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) will submit the application for licensure and endorsement.
7. Begin the Program
   Candidates may begin the program by reviewing the current cohort calendar for scheduled learning days and monitoring email communications for ongoing updates and information.
