School Resource Officers

Our School Resource Officers (SROs) are ranked #1 in the nation for a reason!  Employed by the Sumner County Sheriff's Office, each SRO is a deputy sheriff dedicated to ensuring the safety of our schools. They work hard every day to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We are proud to have a deputy in every school, providing an added layer of security and peace of mind.

Parent and Guardian Guide:
Helping Schools in an Emergency

What you can do to assist the schools before, during and after an emergency to ensure the safety of all students.

Before an Emergency:

  • Update your contact information with the school.
  • Keep your child’s pickup list current. Approved adults must carry ID.
  • Tell the school about any special needs your child has.
  • Know how the school will communicate. (app, email, phone, social media, website)
  • Encourage your children to take drills seriously, to listen carefully, and follow directions.

During an Emergency:

  • Stay calm.
  • Do NOT call the school: in a crisis situation, school phones and people who answer them are needed to manage the situation and lines must remain open.
  • Do NOT go to the school unless told to do so. This can greatly interfere with the efforts of emergency responders to manage the incident and transport the injured.
  • Stay informed through official school updates.
  • Follow directions from school or emergency officials.
  • Do NOT contact your child – they need to be focused on what they are doing and in certain situations they must remain quiet.

After an Emergency:

  • Wait for official word before picking up your child.
  • Talk to your child, support them and encourage open communication. Additional crisis supports will be available through the district.

Reporting Concerning Behaviors:

For parents of older children, make sure they feel encouraged to report suspicious or concerning behavior on the Safer Sumner tip line available in the app store and google play or use the webform found at Safer Sumner Tip Line.
