In grades 3-5 assessments in ELA, Math, and Science are state-mandated according to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 and T.C.A. §49-1-602. They are used to measure student progression toward state standard mastery. The results impact school and district accountability. The grade 2 assessments in ELA and Math are district-mandated to measure student mastery in the content. All assessments in grades 2-5 are administered in paper/pencil format. More information can be found on the TDOE TCAP website.

Raw scores and quick score conversions are expected within three weeks of administration to be used in student grading according to board policy 4.600. Full reporting will be available in the summer through the state’s TCAP Family Portal. Paper student reports will be distributed at the school level at the start of the next school.

They are used to measure student progression toward state standard mastery. The results impact school and district accountability. All assessments in high school are administered in an online format. State administration windows

The state-mandated alternate assessments are designed for students with significant cognitive disabilities (about one percent of the student population). The structures of alternate assessments are designed around the student’s physical and cognitive disabilities in a way that allows them to answer test questions and participate in the test as independently as possible. More information can be found on the TDOE alternate assessment website.

The state releases individual student reports with details of performance. District office staff distribute these reports to schools to share with parents.

Fall:

PreK- Grade 3:
Spring: April 26–May 10, 2027

Grades 4-12:
Spring: May 5 – 18, 2027

The state-mandated universal screening is administered to measure student progress in reading and math three times a year in grades K-5, at least once a year in grades 6-8, and for select students in grades 9-12. This suite of assessments is also used to identify students with characteristics of dyslexia. Students with deficits in reading or math may require additional intervention services and will be progress monitored using the same platforms. Grades 6-8 math uses iReady Diagnostic for the Universal Screener.

Results are shared with students and parents after the Fall, Winter, and Spring administrations. In grades K-3 results are shared in the Home Literacy Report.

Fall Senior Retake:

Spring Junior Testing:
March 9-12 & 15-19

State administration window – Schools select one day in each window

The ACT is a college readiness test utilized by hundreds of colleges and universities. Completing the ACT is a graduation state-mandated requirement. The scores are used in school and district accountability as well as student outcome funding in TISA. The ACT is also used in HOPE Scholarship eligibility. More information can be found on the TDOE college readiness website.

Student-level reports are available through the student’s My ACT portal 3-8 weeks after the test administration.

August 10, 2026 – May 20, 2027

Each school schedules accordingly

According to T.C.A. § 49-6-408, all students must pass with a 70 percent or higher the state-mandated civics test to earn a full diploma upon graduation. More information can be found on the TDOE civics assessment website.

Results are available soon after the test is given to students and parents. Results are maintained in Skyward to document participation and are noted on the student’s transcript.

Dates to be determined by NAEP

State administration window

Deemed “the nation’s report card,” the federally mandated NAEP is a measure of academic progress across the nation over time. The test is given to a representative sample of students in reading, math, civics, and U.S. History. More information can be found on the NAEP website.

Results are not reported at the student, school, or district level. State-level results are posted online six months after the test administration.

February 1 – March 26, 2027

State administration window

The state-mandated ELPA21 measures English language proficiency. It is one way to determine the level of English language support needed in the classroom. The results are one indicator in federal accountability. More information can be found on the TDOE EL Assessments website.

The results are returned to the district at the end of the school year. Individual student reports are sent home to parents at the start of the next school year.

Fall:
November 9 – 17, 2026

Spring:
March 1 – 9, 2027

The district Mastery Connect Benchmark is administered twice a year to measure student progress toward standard mastery in each content area. It is used formatively to determine instructional shifts that may need to take place individually or whole group.

The results are available soon after the test administration. Each school determines when and how to share the results with the students and parents.

Fall:
September 28 – October 2, 2026

Spring:
March 8 – 12, 2027

May 3 – 21, 2027

Specific dates are determined by College Board and assigned by course.

AP exams are final assessments for the corresponding college-level course taken in high school. Scores can be used to award college credit or to determine placement upon entering college. More information can be found on the College Board website.

Scores become available in mid-July through the College Board website.

Industry certifications (IC) are earned through secondary and postsecondary career and technical education programs and courses that are focused on robust, career-aligned learning pathways. Students are provided relevant education and training to jumpstart their postsecondary degrees and credentials. Students, with their certificate, degree or credential can transition seamlessly into the workforce and contribute to the success of our economy.

Based upon specific industry certifications students and parents may know score or pass/fail results.

To be determined by each course at each school.

Statewide Dual Credit: Students enrolled in this course take the online challenge exam, which is used to assess mastery of the postsecondary-level learning objective. Students who meet or exceed the exam “cut score” receive college credit that can be applied to any Tennessee public postsecondary institution.

Local Dual Credit: Students taking this course who pass the exam earn credits that are accepted and/or recognized by the local postsecondary institution. More information can be found on the TDOE dual credit website.

Based upon the course and the postsecondary institution, scores are shared with students and parents. For statewide dual credit, scores are included on the student transcript.
