Welcome to the Instruction Department of Sumner County Schools, where our focus is on delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences for more than 30,000 students and supporting over 2,700 exceptional teachers across our schools in Middle Tennessee.

What We Do
The Instruction Department is at the heart of academic success in our district. Our team works collaboratively to support schools in delivering rigorous, engaging, and equitable instruction from Pre-K through 12th grade. We are responsible for:
- Curriculum Development and Alignment: Designing and refining standards-based curricula that align with Tennessee state standards and prepare students for college, career, and life.
- Professional Learning and Teacher Support: Offering continuous professional development and instructional coaching to help educators grow and thrive in their practice.
- Instructional Technology Integration: Equipping teachers and students with the tools and training needed to enhance learning through modern technology.
- Academic Interventions and Enrichment: Coordinating programs to support struggling learners and challenge advanced students, ensuring every child is supported and stretched.
- Assessment and Data-Informed Instruction: Supporting educators in using data to personalize instruction and improve outcomes for all learners.
- Early Literacy and Numeracy Initiatives: Prioritizing foundational skills that set students on the path to lifelong academic success.
