Welcome to the Human Resources Department of Sumner County Schools. Serving a dynamic community of over 30,000 students, more than 2,700 certified educators, and over 2,000 classified employees, our department is dedicated to recruiting, retaining, and supporting the talented individuals who make a difference in our schools every day.

What We Do

The Human Resources Department manages a wide range of essential functions that support every stage of an employee’s journey—from hiring to retirement. Our responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting & Hiring: Attracting top talent for certified and classified positions across the district, ensuring every classroom and department is equipped with skilled, passionate professionals.
  • Position Control: Managing position allocations and staffing to align with school and district needs.
  • Substitute Services: Coordinating substitute teacher recruitment, placement, and support to ensure uninterrupted learning.
  • FMLA & Leave Management: Assisting employees with leave options under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other leave policies.
  • Risk Management: Overseeing workplace safety, employee injuries, and workers’ compensation in partnership with district leadership.
  • Background Checks & Fingerprinting: Ensuring all employees, volunteers, and contractors meet safety and compliance standards through thorough screening procedures.
  • Employee Identification & Badging: Issuing and managing ID badges for all staff to maintain campus safety and secure access.
  • Professional Development & Training: Supporting ongoing growth for all employees through relevant, job-specific training opportunities and compliance programs.
Our Team Structure

To better serve the unique needs of our staff, the Human Resources Department includes two key leadership roles:

  • Certified Employee Supervisor: Focuses on supporting teachers, administrators, and other certified personnel through the hiring, onboarding, evaluation, and professional development process.
  • Classified Employee Supervisor: Provides dedicated support for classified staff, including paraprofessionals, clerical, custodial, transportation, and nutrition personnel, ensuring equitable access to resources and career growth.
