In the spring of 2005, parents of all Sumner County K-12 students were invited to respond to a survey regarding our schools. The results came in with positive results seen across the system. Over 90% of the survey respondents reported that they are treated with courtesy when they visit schools. Sumner County schools are safe, welcoming, and inviting according to more than 86% of parents who responded. Finally, more than 86% of parents agreed that teachers are approachable and helpful. Through our family engagement plan, we want to extend these positive outcomes in other ways. For one, we want parents to know that there are a variety of sources of information about the schools and school system that are readily accessible to parents including Policy Handbook for Parents and Students which includes information on attendance, discipline, student rights, student use of technology, and more. Board of Education Policy Book which is available in each school office and which includes policies regarding the review of instructional materials and family engagement. Comments related to Board policies and other concerns of parents may be made through regular Board meetings and study sessions. The Board of Education meeting room is in Gallatin at 695 East Main Street. For more information, call 451-5200.
