Title I
Each year, the district determines which schools are eligible to receive Title I NCLB funds. Priority is given to schools with enrollment of 35% or more students from low-income families. The following Sumner County Schools receive money for a Title I program: Vena Stuart, Guild, Benny Bills, North Sumner, Howard, Millersville, Westmoreland, Bethpage, J.W. Wiseman, and Clyde Riggs.

The goal of Title I is a high-quality education for every child, so the program provides extra help to students who need it most. These are children who are the furthest from meeting the standard the state has set for all children.

The Title I programs offers students small classes taught by reading specialists and extra help from assistants in the classroom setting, Title I money provides additional training for the school staff and extra time for instruction such as after school and summer school programs.

Title I needs parents to take an active role in the program to help plan and carry out program goals and to learn skills that will help their children. Title I parent meetings are held at each school during the school year along with several opportunities to meet the Title I staff.

Please call Bonnie Bender at 451-5224 if you have any suggestions on how to improve the Title I program or if you have any questions.
