Maintenance
MaintenanceThe Maintenance Department currently has a staff of 45 people reporting to the director. Those 45 persons include Office Staff, Foreman, Energy Management and Shop Personnel, Carpenters, Locksmiths, Electricians, Electronic Technicians, HVAC Technicians, Plumbers, Painter, Building Maintenance men for each high school, Trustee Supervisors, and Ground Maintenance Personnel.

The Maintenance Department is responsible for the continued daily maintenance and repair of all Sumner County schools and Board of Education affiliated offices ensuring a safe school environment for all students and staff. The department maintains over 4.6 million square feet of building space on a daily basis. Not only do they make repairs and upgrades to current school buildings, they are also responsible for field houses, portables, green houses, and other miscellaneous outbuildings. They maintain buildings that date back to an original construction date of 1922 as well as the newest most modern school facility that was built in 2005.

The most important criteria for maintenance cost management is to manage human resources. The
School Dude/Maintenance Direct Work Order Module efficiently schedules and tracks the work of all employees while creating the information required to analyze work loads. This allows us, The Maintenance Department, to optimize human resources abilities and time. By tracking all maintenance cost and activity by skill codes, we are able to evaluate the maintenance needs of Sumner County schools. The Maintenance Department averages 20,000 completed work orders per year.

Our schools are now on the high performance level. They require many more man hours than ever before to keep them operating at top efficiency. Our common goal is to have the most efficient, adaptable and maintainable but yet affordable schools ever.

The office staff consists of: Mike Marshall, Maintenance Director; Vicky L. Currey, Purchasing and Inventory Control; Sylvia Youngblood, Department Head Secretary; Debbie Kemp, Administrative Secretary. The Maintenance Department can be reached at 615-451-5255. Our fax number is 615-206-1567.
