Instructional Materials Information |
Textbook Purchasing and Distribution The Instructional Materials Center manages the county-wide distribution of student textbooks, teachers’ editions, and free supplementary materials as provided by the textbook publishers. Each school has a textbook coordinator who serves as a liaison with the Instructional Materials Center. Teachers should coordinate textbook needs through their coordinators.
New Textbook AdoptionThe Instructional Materials Center conducts the annual textbook adoption process for the county. Textbooks are adopted on a 6 year rotation schedule as established by the state of Tennessee. (See Textbook Adoption Schedule.) Teachers with more than three years of experience in their subject area are eligible to serve on the various county adoption committees, at the recommendation of their principals.
Citizens, parents, and teachers may visit the Instructional Materials Center to view the texts that are under consideration for adoption in the upcoming year. The texts are available for review from the second week of January through the first week of April. Reviewer input will be forwarded to the appropriate textbook committee.
Instructional MediaThe Instructional Materials Center no longer maintains a library of videos, CDs, DVDs and other media. These resources have been allocated to individual school libraries.
Out of Adoption ResourcesTextbooks and other supplementary materials that are no longer used in Sumner County schools are available for purchase in our Surplus Materials Room. Books are $2 for Sumner County residents and $3 for out-of-county residents. These resources are valuable for home school families, parents wishing to provide extra academic practice for their children, and teachers who wish to supplement current resources. Individuals may purchase a maximum of one teacher edition and 3 copies of each title. We do not buy back books.
Sumner County School NewsThe Sumner County School News, a parent newsletter, is published by the Instructional Materials Center twice a semester. It is distributed to every student and employee of the school system and is available on line. Information to be included in the newsletter should be sent to David Woodard at woodardd@k12tn.net. Please include "Sumner County School News" in the subject line. Deadlines for the current year are as follows: October 2, December 1, March 1, and May 1. Student Academic FormsAcademic forms provided by the Instructional Materials Center include computer forms and envelopes for grade reports and transcripts, career portfolios, report cards for K-5, progress reports, cumulative record jackts, attendance cards, reading cards and test cards, and textbook record forms. Requests for these forms must be made through the school's textbook coordinator.
