In general, teachers must have full certification, a bachelors degree and demonstrated competence in subject knowledge and teaching.
Parents may request information regarding the qualifications of classroom teachers and assistants providing instructional support to their children. Principals will maintain a list of teachers, paraprofessionals and their qualifications.
Adequate Yearly ProgressAdequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is the phrase used to describe progress toward achieving state academic standards. AYP is the minimum level of improvement that state departments of education, school districts and schools must achieve each year.
All groups of students must make the minimum level of improvement each year. Failure of any one group of students may result in a district or school not making Adequate Yearly Progress. The groups of students include economically disadvantaged, Limited English-Proficient, students with disabilities, and five race and ethnic groups.
