Sumner County Behavior Consultants have two primary responsibilities:
To assist the Therapeutic Intervention Program (TIP) and the Extended Behavior Class (EBC) as a part of the Case Management Team. The Behavior Consultant is also the primary person in the overall implementation of the classroom level system. Additionally, the consultant helps teams throughout the county develop Specific Behavior Management Plans (SBMP) along with Individual Crisis Management Plans (ICMP) for all students within these programs.
To develop strategies for general and special education teachers with students that are having major behavioral issues in general and special education classrooms. This service is available for general and special education students; however, the school must contact their school psychologist to access these services. Typically, students will have had at least one Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for a minimum of four weeks with minimal success before services are requested. When there is limited success, the school psychologist will contact the School Psychology Coordinator to receive approval for the referral. The case manager is then to complete the Behavior Assessment Form.
Additional services of the Behavior Consultants include the following:
To oversee the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Program. This includes, but is not limited to scheduling and training of all partially and fully certified staff, data collection of special incident reports, along with review of special incident reports as a member of the Pupil Services Risk Management Team;
To oversee the training for the Why Try Program in Sumner County;
To complete in-service training within the school system covering positive behavioral interventions for overall classroom management; and
To order and help staff implement materials that can be used throughout the county in a Social Skills curriculum.
