Office of Board and Community Relations

The Office of Board and Community Relations is responsible for providing accurate, relevant, and timely information concerning school district activities to all stakeholders through a variety of means and resources. The office reports to the Director of Schools as a part of the administrative staff, and it is supervised by Jeremy Johnson.

Specific responsibilities include supporting the activities of the elected Board of Education, corresponding with leaders of parent organizations, coordinating media requests and activities at the district level, serving as spokesperson for district activities, serving as an information and media resource for all district departments and schools, and promoting the district and its activities throughout the community.

Board of Education Support

The Office of Board and Community Relations supports the Board of Education by:

  • Preparing and distributing agenda materials and official minutes for all Board meetings; (Agendas and minutes can be downloaded here.)

  • Maintaining the Board Policy Manual and providing periodic updates for the manuals to schools, district departments, and Board members;

  • Serving as a conduit for Board member interaction with the Tennessee School Boards Association for the scheduling of required training sessions and other professional development opportunities; and

  • Working with the Director of Schools to keep Board members informed about events and matters of interest throughout the school district.

Director and Staff Support

The Office of Board and Community Relations supports the Director of Schools and district staff in several ways, including:

  • Maintaining a record of Board and district actions;

  • Creating and maintaining databases of emergency contact information for use by district staff in crisis situations;

  • Coordinating Board of Education agendas;

  • Providing electronic and printed materials for a variety of internal and external events and presentations; and

  • Assisting all schools and departments in meeting mass communications needs.

Public and Media Support

The Office of Board and Community Relations supports the public and the news media through:

  • Serving as a resource concerning previous Board and district activities through the research of archived minutes and other materials;

  • Acting as spokesman for the district to answer questions concerning district activities, Board actions, Board policies, and upcoming events;

  • Coordinating media requests for various schools and departments and arranging media coverage of events when appropriate;

  • Promoting district activities through the timely release of information as needed; and

  • Providing a point of contact during times of crisis or rapidly developing events.
