Sumner County School Nursing consists of 14 nurses (6 RNs and 8 LPNs). Each nurse is responsible for up to four schools.
School nursing entails daily traveling to schools to provide services such as administering medications, diabetic monitoring, catherization, tube feeding, health counciling, monitoring immunizations and genral and emergency nursing care.
Nurses are also responsible for communicating medical needs and issues to parents, guardians, principals and teachers, participating in IEP meetings, writing Individual Health Plans (IHP's), networking with community health agencies, and providing inservices to promote health and wellness. Nurses are also key members of the School Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.) within the county.
